Cake & Bake...

My friend and I and 20,000 others descended on Earls Court at the weekend for the 1st Cake & Bake show. Having sold out several weeks ago it was no surprise to see a Q snaking around the venue on exiting the station, "fortunately" my friend has a broken foot and a very lovely kind security personal took pity on us and let us in the press door.
We had no real plan of the day and hadn't booked any classes, opting to just wander around. We got to see an meet lots of people including a few "celebrity bakers"!
As we walked past the Baking mad stand, they were setting up for their first class, with a little help from Eric Lanlard!...as you can see the stand was styled in a simple shaker way.

Having watched Eric open the show we headed over to the classroom space where we saw the VERY popular Paul Hollywood setting up in the Kids kitchen!... crowds later during the day to see the silver fox were huge!... even rumours of women fainting!!!
In one of the classroom areas we caught the incredibly talented Paul Young demonstrating chocolate making. He made it look so easy, and I'm definitely tempted to try a bit of chocolate making.... Just along from where Paul was demoing was his chocolate stand... his sea salted caramel millionaire brownies are to die for!.. his team on the stand were so friendly and very informative.
Heading back to the main area we caught the last 10 minutes of Eric's demo in the Cake Kitchen of  his Caribbean chocolate tart which looked delicious. ( it did feel as the day went on that chocolate was a big theme of the day!)
Leaving the cake kitchen we wandered around the stands falling in love with lots of goodies. Crowds were heavy but if too busy we walked away and just came back to it later.
One of the stands I did fall in love with was the Great Cake Places stand. It was styled delightfully, vintage glamour at its loveliest. I blogged recently about this book and can't recommend it enough... also available now on an App!
From Great cake places we perused a few more stands before catching Mich Turner demonstrating one of her signature small cakes with handmade roses... they were at the piped leave stage when we got there!. Later on we got to talk to Mich on her LVCC stand, where she was showcasing some new wedding cake designs and additions to her cake decorating kit. I have  a lot of this kit and it it some of my favourite pieces in my cake decorating box. The cupcake kit is a must for any cupcake fan.
Along with some pictures a Mich, styling on the Dr Oetker and cupcake decorating with Miss Cakehead caught my eye... rainbow cakes featured on several stands. Heading back to the Cake kitchen we caught the start of Jo Wheatley's demo... here's a few pictures of her having fun with Alistair Appleton!

having met Jo last year at her Christmas hamper day It was great to see how much her confidence had grown and looking uber glamorous!
Dotted around the venue were a number of show areas .. including a Beach Cake competition, Wedding cake and styled tables from Tempting Cake... my favourite Beach cake was this beautiful pastel nostalgic cake  from little cake cupboard ... it deserved far more than a merit. Rachelle's black & wedding cake was my favourite of the wedding cakes. I also fell in love with the chocolate cake on the stand of Tracey Mann, resulting in purchasing of several chocolate transfer sheets.
One of the other cake stands which drew lots of crowds and questions was the fabulous display from the Sugarcraft guild, which was entirely made from Sugar and cake for the Jubilee. The lace work on the cake was stunning. Loved the cookie bouquet as well.
Some of the other highlights of the day were bumping into Cathryn, John and Sarah-jane who were wandering around before Cathryn and Sarah-janes demo later that day.

I also managed to get 5 minutes talking to Peggy on her stand which looked gorgeous... a little slice of the Parlour bought to Earls court. The new "Bake & Decorate" range is yummy!.. . It was lovely to see Peggy and her "baby bump" looking so well.
We also caught up with Lottie Duncan from UK TV who was signing the Celebrity Bake Book which is filled with some great recipes, and some surprising celebrities... it seems its not just us who like to bake!.
After several hours we headed home a little weary but loaded with a few treats! We had a great day, fortunately didn't have the troubles that some people had Q'ing for toilets and coffee. It was very busy and as with every event I'm sure the organisers have a little food for thought for next years event in Manchester, but as you can see we had a great time... thanks Cake & Bake.

Here are a few treats purchased from my day...
